About VNC Viewer

An independent guide to VNC Viewer and open-source remote desktop — no hype, no fake reviews, just practical help.

VNC Viewer is an independent resource for people who use — or want to start using — open-source remote desktop tools. We are not an official software vendor, and we are not affiliated with RealVNC Ltd. or any commercial vendor. We're simply enthusiasts who think remote access shouldn't be confusing.

Why this site exists

Remote desktop software is genuinely useful and, unfortunately, a magnet for low-quality and outright dangerous "download" pages. We wanted a calm, honest place that explains how VNC Viewer does, how to set it up properly, and — just as importantly — how to do it safely.

What we cover

  • Plain-English setup and installation walkthroughs
  • Security guidance, including encryption and safe internet access
  • Troubleshooting for the problems people actually hit
  • Honest comparisons with tools like TightVNC, TigerVNC and RDP

Our approach

We don't invent version numbers, fake reviews or made-up statistics. When something depends on your exact system or the latest release, we say so and point you to the official source rather than guessing. If we're not certain, we tell you.

Note: always download remote-access packages from their official project source and verify it before installing. Our download section links to the GitHub source ZIP in the download section.
